Everything you want to know about Invasive Species

This year’s summer educational/social event is called “EcoTalk” and will focus on Invasive Species and their impact both in our lakes and in our forests.

Where: Sandy Lane Resort, Halls Lake

When: Saturday August 17, 2013, 1:30pm – 4pm
Two speakers will help us understand the current status of invasive species in Ontario’s Inland Lakes as well as the forests surrounding them.

Professor Sandy Smith, a specialist in Forest Health with the University of Toronto, will share the work she has been doing on invasive species in the Haliburton Private Forest as well as her ideas about what needs to be done in response.

Laura Stern, from the Invading Species Awareness Program, Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters, will talk about aquatic invaders and what water front property owners can do contain and minimize their impact on our lake ecosystems.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions of both speakers and for discussion about positive individual and collective measures available to help protect our lakes and the forests connected to them.
